Dr. Amit Kumar is a professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Alberta. He is the NSERC Industrial Research Chair in Energy and Environmental Systems Engineering and the Cenovus Energy Endowed Chair in Environmental Engineering. Dr. Kumar is also the Deputy Director of Future Energy Systems. He is an internationally renowned scientist who currently leads a large research program supported by more than 65 industry, government, and funding agencies. Dr. Kumar has been invited to address the House of Commons and the Senate of Canada. He has also served on several expert panels for the European Commission, the US National Science Foundation (NSF), the Government of Canada (NRCan, ECCC, NSERC, NRC), the California Environmental Protection Agency (CalEPA), and others. Dr. Kumar is the Province of Alberta’s elected representative on The Center for Legislative Energy and Environmental Research (CLEER) University Advisory Board, an organization comprised of 14 energy-producing states in the US and two Canadian provinces. He has co-authored 178 peer-reviewed journal publications and more than 500 conference/other presentations. Dr. Kumar has received several prestigious awards and recognitions including the 2020 APEGA Summit Award for Research Excellence, induction as a Fellow of the Canadian Society of Bioengineering, and recognition by Reuters in the “The Reuters Hot List,” a list of the world’s top climate scientists according to how influential they are. Dr. Kumar has a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Alberta, Canada.
