2023 Strategic Program Speakers

Ryan Laverty is TC Energy’s Director of Canadian Energy Origination & Development, a team responsible for delivering on the company’s customer-focused low-carbon growth strategy that includes developing the Crossfield Hydrogen Hub in southern Alberta.

Ryan has been involved in power and decarbonization for more than 16 years having started his career at the Alberta Electricity System Operator before moving to TC Energy, then known as TransCanada. Ryan helped set up TC Energy’s carbon offset development business in 2009 and has helped enable more than 6M tonnes of emissions reductions or removals in Alberta since that time.

In 2019, Ryan originated and helped TC Energy execute on what was then Canada’s largest private sector solar power purchase agreement with the Claresholm Solar project. In 2021, Ryan’s group signed PPAs with the 20MW East Strathmore Solar project and the 297 MW Sharp Hills Wind Project, which is currently Canada’s largest privately negotiated wind PPA.

Ryan holds a degree in Economics from the University of Calgary, in Journalism from the University of King’s College in Halifax, and an MBA – Finance from the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary.
