Bedar Islam is the Global Business Manager for Johnson Matthey’s CCS-enabled “blue” hydrogen technology. He has been in the industry for over 27 years, and served the oil & gas (O&G) and energy sector for decades. Bedar is a chemical engineer, and during the early part of his career, he conceptualised the design and commissioning of large-scale plants around the world. Bedar has been recognised with numerous awards (such as Technology Excellence and Most Effective Technology) by Dow Chemical company for his contributions to the industry.

Bedar has travelled extensively, serving customers in numerous value chains, including the O&G, syngas, petrochemical, polyethylene and agri sectors. His current and past technology portfolios have encompassed gas-sweetening solvents and efficient CO2 capture, catalysts, licensed technologies, proprietary equipment, innovative chemicals to improve overall sustainability, operational efficiencies, reduced carbon footprint, CapEx and OpEx.

Bedar is passionate about technological means to address needs for a sustainable world. He believes decarbonisation, energy transition and the hydrogen economy are all underpinned by overall sustainability and holistic social needs.
