Canadian Hydrogen Convention Awards

The Emerging Hydrogen Leader Award recognizes an up-and-coming individual whose efforts have already made a significant impact on their organization, industry, or community, going above and beyond their regular responsibilities. Nominees should demonstrate exceptional strategic thinking, leadership, community involvement, and commitment to excellence in their field. This category is open to individuals with 10 or fewer years of experience in the energy industry. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

Questions for Submitters:

• Provide a clear, public-ready description of individual for marketing purposes. This MUST be public ready, as it will be used to promote your submission on the website if you are nominated.
• In what way are the nominee’s achievements unique and extraordinary within their organization?
• How does the nominee go beyond the normal scope of their work?
• What is the individual doing that is unique, when compared to their peers, resulting in making a positive impact within the hydrogen industry?
• Is what the individual is doing able to apply beyond their organization?
• Can others do what this individual is doing (e.g., is it transferable to other individuals/organizations/industries)?

The Hydrogen Infrastructure Award recognizes innovation in addressing key challenges in hydrogen infrastructure, including reducing costs, improving energy efficiency, maintaining hydrogen purity, and minimizing leakage. Submissions may cover any aspect of hydrogen infrastructure, including pipelines, liquefaction plants, transportation, storage facilities, compressors, and dispensers. This category is open to innovative equipment, processes, or digital solutions that advance the safe, efficient, and scalable development and operation of hydrogen infrastructure. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

• Clear explanation of the innovation that can be used for marketing purposes. This MUST be public ready as it will be used to promote your submission on the website if you are nominated.
• How is your innovation new or relevant to the sector? Please provide sufficient technical detail that people in your industry can appreciate the significance and not just spec or features.

• How does this solution advance hydrogen infrastructure development?
• How is this an improvement over current capabilities in your sector?

The Hydrogen Digital Innovator Award recognizes novel digital technologies advancing the hydrogen industry. All technologies in this category should be at stages of initial production and rollout, full production mode, or commercial (post pilot stage). This category is open to digital technology concepts that are less than five years old and are considered “game changers” in the energy industry. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

Questions for Submitters:

• Clear explanation of technology that can be used for marketing purposes. This MUST be public ready as it will be used to promote your submission on the website. 
• How is your technology unique, new, or relevant to the hydrogen sector?
• Please provide sufficient technical detail that people in your industry can appreciate it’s significance, beyond technical specifications or features. 
• Who is the target market? 
• How user friendly is the digital system? Provide feedback from system users where appropriate.
• What solution or value proposition does it offer the industry or end users? 
• What differentiates your solution from your competitors? 
• How does this create an advancement over what is currently achievable in your sector (financially or environmentally)?

The Hydrogen Early Adopter Award honors trailblazers in climate action who demonstrate exceptional leadership, innovation, and commitment to advancing novel and innovative solutions using low-carbon fuels such as hydrogen, ammonia, methanol, and e-methane. This award recognizes organizations at the forefront of adoption, celebrating those that have invested in pilot or groundbreaking demonstration projects across industrial and commercial applications. By championing the commercial potential of these emerging energy solutions, these pioneers are driving progress toward a more sustainable future. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

The Hydrogen Enabler Award recognizes organizations, institutions, and educational bodies that play a pivotal role in advancing the hydrogen industry and other low-carbon fuel solutions such as ammonia, methanol, and e-methane. This award celebrates those enabling innovation through research, development, education, collaboration, or support services that accelerate the adoption and commercialization of low-carbon technologies. This category is open to research organizations, universities, technical schools, industry associations, and other organizations that provide critical expertise, resources, or infrastructure to the hydrogen and broader low-carbon community. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

Questions for Submitters:

• Provide a clear, public-ready description of your organization’s role in enabling hydrogen and other low-carbon fuels (ammonia, methanol, e-methane) adoption, innovation, or commercialization. The nominees in this category will have been in the energy industry for 10 or more years. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

The Hydrogen Mobility Award recognizes organizations and projects driving innovative solutions in hydrogen and other low-carbon fuel mobility, including ammonia, methanol, and e-methane. This award celebrates advancements that address key challenges in transportation, such as reducing costs, improving energy efficiency, extending vehicle ranges, and enhancing overall system performance. Submissions may include all forms of transportation, including cars, trucks, buses, ships, and trains or supporting equipment that advance the sector. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

• How is your innovation new or relevant to the sector? Please provide sufficient technical detail that people in your industry can appreciate the significance and not just spec or features.

• How does this solution advance the hydrogen and low carbon fuel mobility problem?
• How is this an advancement over what is currently achievable in your sector?

The Hydrogen Project Award recognizes small, medium, and large-scale projects globally that demonstrate technological advancement, production excellence, and a meaningful impact on the hydrogen community. This award is open to projects involving hydrogen as well as other low-carbon fuels such as ammonia, methanol, and e-methane. Eligible projects must be either completed within the 2025/2026 period or projected to reach completion by the end of 2026, including those that have reached Final Investment Decision (FID). Projects will be evaluated based on innovation, operational execution, and their contribution to advancing low-carbon energy solutions. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

The Hydrogen Technology: Equipment or Process Controls Award recognizes highly disruptive innovations in equipment that have had a major impact on hydrogen efficiency, emissions, economics, scheduling, or quality. This category also acknowledges products, or services specific to controls that make a positive impact to the hydrogen industry. All technologies in this category should be at either: initial production and rollout, full production mode, or commercial (post-pilot). If the underlying solution is digital, it should be submitted under the Hydrogen Digital Innovator Award category. Self-nominations are welcome, and the award is open to candidates across Canada and internationally.

The Hydrogen Project Award recognizes small, medium, and large-scale projects globally. Projects in this category will be judged on technological advancement and impact on the community. All projects entered will need to be either completed within the 2023/2024 time period or will be projected to be completed or advanced planning stage by the end of 2024 in order to be considered.
