Houssam Alaouie is the Global Head of Collaboration and Government Programs and Academic Partnerships at CAE Inc., the global leader in modelling, simulation and training for civil aviation and defence forces.
Houssam is responsible for the development and management of collaborative research and development programs in partnership with governments, the establishment and management of tax incentive programs, and collaboration in innovation ecosystems including higher education institutions, research centers, and research consortia. He also sits on several committees at CAE including those on social responsibility and carbon neutrality.
Over his 29-year career, Houssam has developed a unique experience in R&D, product development and innovation management in the aerospace sector at the national and international levels. During his 25 years at CAE, he has held several key positions in the fields of project management and product management, as well as innovation and strategic technology development initiatives, including managing the development of new generation of technology platforms for flight simulators and other major R&D collaboration programs.
Houssam is a board member and of the group for the development of more ecological aircraft (SA2GE). Houssam is also a director and founding member of the new Initiative for Sustainable Aviation Technology of Canada (INSAT) aimed at accelerating the green industrial transformation of the aerospace industry. He was also an early member of the piloting and steering committee responsible for founding Confiance IA, an industrial research consortium in Québec working to develop sustainable, ethical, safe and responsible artificial intelligence. He is also co-founder and was a vice-president of the Canadian Mobility and Aerospace Institute (CMAI) in Canada and a member of its management committee. CMAI offers and develops workplace learning activities for current and emerging workers in the Canadian mobility industries. Houssam is the president of the innovation working group of Aéro Montréal/Espace Aéro, the aerospace cluster of Quebec and aerospace innovation zone. He is also a member of the steering and governance committee of the Quebec Aerospace Innovation Zone project. Houssam is also an active member of the technology and innovation committee of the Aerospace Industries Association of Canada (AIAC). He acted as co-chair of the working group (strategy and governance) during the AIAC the national consultation on the future of a clean and green aerospace industry in Canada.
Houssam was a member of the board of directors of the AÉRO21 organization, which managed a mobilizing strategic project in Quebec to respond to major trends in the aerospace sector. He is also a member of the Concordia Institute for Aerospace Design and Innovation Advisory Board (ICIAC). Houssam was also a member of the advisory committee of the Round Table for Business and Higher Education (BHER). Houssam sat on the board of directors of île du savoir, an organization that contributes to making Montreal a city of learning, knowledge and innovation. In May 2022, he was appointed by the Minister of Higher Education for the board of directors of the Cégep de Bois-de-Boulogne. Houssam was also an ambassador of the PIGraN campaign committee (Pôle d’Innovation du Grand Nord-Cité du Savoir, Haiti).
Houssam graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering in 1997 from Concordia University and has a master's degree in engineering management from the Université de Sherbrooke, as well as a PhD in industrial engineering from Polytechnique Montréal.
