Omid Ardakani completed his Ph.D. in Earth Sciences at the University of Windsor in 2012 and joined the Geological Survey of Canada (Calgary) in 2013 as a postdoctoral fellow. He is currently a Research Scientist at GSC and an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Earth, Energy, and Environment at the University of Calgary (since 2018).

His research focuses on organic and inorganic geochemistry of sedimentary systems, including organic matter characterization, water–rock interaction, and underground carbon and hydrogen storage. He has led and contributed to extensive studies of the Montney Formation, advancing understanding of organic matter origin, depositional environments, diagenesis, and mechanisms of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) generation. 

He currently leads projects on Montney turbidite reservoir characterization for carbon storage and Canada’s natural hydrogen and helium resources.
